This one-of-a-kind handmade ceramic art tile is a small piece of original wall art, created by hand from clay and finished with layered botanical and/or damask patterns, texture, color, and intentional signs of age and wear.
Part of my Remnant series, these ceramic wall pieces explore the beauty of what remains: faded wallpaper, painted plaster, architectural ornament, and the traces of lives once lived in a place. Each tile is individually formed and decorated, so no two pieces are exactly alike.
The surface is intentionally imperfect. Layers of underglaze, texture, pattern, abrasion, and exposed clay create the appearance of a weathered architectural fragment—something discovered rather than manufactured. The botanical ornament is reminiscent of old wallpaper and decorative plaster found in historic and abandoned homes.
At approximately 4 × 4 inches, this piece is designed to be displayed as a small work of ceramic wall art, either on its own or as part of a collected arrangement of tiles and other objects. It has been fitted with tiny silicone bumpers to protect any surface if it is used as a trivet or coaster.
Because each piece is individually handmade, dimensions, surface texture, color variation, and pattern will vary slightly.
